Emily Trube covers the courtrooms and city halls of Williamson County, along with the national and state lawmakers of Central Texas. Among the events Emily has reported on for KLBJ are the Democratic Primary debate between Obama and Clinton at UT and the “Thorndale Dog Trial”, which resulted in the state’s “Lillian’s Law”, a measure that allows for criminally charging dog owners whose pet severely injures or kills someone. Emily’s 2007 story on a toddler from Taylor whose mother was arrested after the little boy tested positive for cocaine caught the attention of CNN’s Nancy Grace, who invited her to provide the details and background on the case.
In March of 2008, Emily served as moderator for a Republican primary candidate’s forum hosted by Williamson County Republican women for the race for Seat 52 of the Texas House of Representatives. In October 2008, she moderated a forum hosted by Southwestern University in Georgetown between the Republican, Democratic and Libertarian candidates for the same race, hosted by Southwestern University in Georgetown.
Prior to joining News Radio 590 KLBJ in 2006, she was with News-Talk 600 KTBB in Tyler, where she covered Smith and Gregg Counties and served as a local political correspondent for “The Roger Gray Show”. While in East Texas, she received the “Best Reporter Award” in 2005 from the Texas AP Broadcasters. In 2006, the same organization awarded her first place in the Spot News category for her on the scene coverage of the March shooting death of Smith County Constable Dale Geddie.
Emily graduated from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts in 1995, with a BFA in Theater. The profound experience of living and working in the city during and following September 11, 2001 caused her to change direction and go into news radio.
