A grassroots group is organizing a Tax Day Tea Party is scheduled to take place in Austin on April 15th.

The nationwide movement of staging demonstrations and reenactments of the Boston Tea Party is centered around protesting high taxes. The slogan is “Repeal the Pork!”

Organizer Judy Holloway tells KLBJ the event is scheduled to kick off at 11:30 am in front of City Hall, where Governor Rick Perry is scheduled to speak. Later in the afternoon, a rally is scheduled to take place on the South Steps of the Capitol, beginning at 4:00pm. Participants are then scheduled to march down Congress Ave to the shores of lady bird lake, where a re-enactment of the 1773 protest is scheduled to take place.

In a press release issued by organizers, the goal is described as calling, "attention to the unprecedented, wasteful spending by  Congress and the Obama Administration." However, Holloway says local groups want the event to be non-partisan.

The Tax Day Tea Party effort has been coordinated by Smart Girl Politics, Top Conservatives on Twitter and the Don’t Go Movement. Plans are underway for rallies to take place in 150American cities and 49 states. To learn more about the local event, visit www.havinganaustinteaparty.com
