At their regular meeting this week, the Georgetown City Council is set to review a proposed clause for future City contracts. The requirement, proposed by City Councilman Keith Brainard, would mandate companies that do business with the city prove their employees are legally authorized to work in the United States.
According to the proposal, a clause in future city contracts would include the following statement. "No contract shall be awarded unless bidder/respondent submits with its bid, proposal, or statement of qualifications a certification that the bidder/respondent is in compliance with the Immigration and Nationality Act [8 U.S.C.A. ยง 1324a] relating to the hiring of unauthorized aliens." City contractors that were found to be in violation of the clause could be deemed in breach of contract with the City.

The Georgetown City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 22 is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Council Chamber and Court Building located at 101 E. Seventh Street.
