Austin Police take on traffic, refocusing efforts to cut down on the number of fatal traffic wrecks.
The recent reorganization at APD will free up additional motorcycle officers to monitor the roads. It's one of several changes Traffic Enforcement Commander Mike Nyert hope will stem the tide of death on Austin's streets.
Nyert says their studies show the main culprits affecting daytime crashes are speeding, inattentive driving, and aggressive driving. 175 people have died on Austin's roads between the beginning of 2005 and the end of last month.
