The UT System regents modified the championship coach’s salary, giving him a permanent 2 million dollar annual service payment after each season he stays on as coach. Faculty at U-T met last night and approved a resolution by a 23 to 15 vote calling the raise inappropriate at a time when other faculty members were facing job losses. University President William Powers attended the meeting defending the move by pointing out athletics is pumping over 6 million dollars into the school. The vote by the faculty serves to show regents of their disapproval of the raise, but will not impact the regents decision.
