Neighbors say an Army psychiatrist suspected of firing on fellow soldiers at Fort Hood cleaned out his apartment and left a phone message saying goodbye to a friend.
Thirteen people were killed and 30 others were wounded in the rapage.
Neighbor Patricia Villa says Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan came over to her apartment Wednesday and yesterday and offered her some items, including a new Quran, saying he was going to be deployed on Friday.
Another neighbor, Jacqueline Harris, says Hasan called her boyfriend, Willie Bell. Harris says "He just wanted to thank Willie for being a good friend and thank him for being there for him.''
The manager of the apartment complex where Hasan lived says the soldier was recently involved in a spat with another soldier living there over Hasan's religious beliefs. John Thompson says a bumper sticker that read "Allah is Love'' was ripped from Hasan's car, which was keyed.
