Officials with the Barton Springs/Edwards Conservation District say the worsening drought could lead to their establishing a new drought stage.
The district's Kirk Holland says, during the summer months, the news for customers in southern Travis and northern Hays counties is not good. "We're concerned that things are going to get worse, with respect to the aquifer conditions, before they get better because we're entering into our heavy water use period, with respect to outdoor irrigation, lawn watering."
Holland says to deal with the potential for increased water use, the district will hold town meetings Tuesday in Sunset Valley in Travis County, and next Monday in Buda. He says they'll gather input from those affected by any rules changes before they consider the particulars of a drought stage that follows the current critical stage.
