Final debate
Posted 10/15/2008 10:00:00 AM
Tonights final debate between John McCain and Barack Obama in New York should have fireworks! Here are some predictions!
1. John McCain will attack Barack Obama on taxes, taxes, taxes.....
2. If John McCain brings up Bill Ayers, look for Obama to bring up Charles Keating....
3. Barack Obama will again promise tax cuts for middle class and help for college students with their student loans.
4. John McCain will say "My Friends" at least 10 times.
5. Barack Obama will mention his single Mom and grandmother at least 5 times.
6. Neither candidate will talk about immigration.
7. On some issues, we will not be able to tell who is a Democrat and who is a Republican...
The Austin City Council wants to buy or swap land for the Lions Municipal Golf Course or extend its current lease with the University of Texas.

Thank you Austin City Council for your efforts to save the golf course, West Austin Youth Association and needed green space in West Austin. The University wants to re-develop the 345 acre Brackenridge tract. But at what cost to the neighborhood? Lake Austin and Exposition are already jammed with traffic. By re-developing the tract, traffic will increase, green space will be gone and the integrity and the history of the neighborhood will be destroyed. Yes, its UT land and they have the right to do what they want to do with the tract. But, they must act responsibly and with Austin and the neighborhood in mind. I hope the council will find a way to work with the UT Regents and come to a mutual agreement that is beneficial to all parties.
I am so glad I was wrong!

Texas surprised me, the nation and Oklahoma in their 45-35 win at the Cotton Bowl Saturday afternoon. The Horns are now #1 in the nation with plenty of quality Big 12 teams ready to challenge the Longhorns. Colt McCoy, Jordan Shipley, Quan Cosby and Chris Ogbonnaya led the way for the Texas offense in the win. But, don't forget the UT offensive line that gave McCoy the time to find the veteran receivers. I did not think they Horns had enough "Bullets" to handle OU defense. The veterans proved me wrong, especially Shipley, the young man from Burnet. Next up is Chase Daniel and Missouri. The Tigers are smarting after their upset loss to Oklahoma State. They will be very dangerous Saturday night at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Mack Brown's biggest problem this week....getting the team back to earth after the win over #1 Oklahoma. Its going to be a great ...
Texas-Oklahoma
Posted 10/10/2008 12:00:00 AM
Texas-Oklahoma weekend is here.....the stock market is tanking and Barack Obama and John McCain are still fighting!
On the Texas game; I think the Sooners have the advantage on the Horns on the offense.Sam Bradford has plenty of bullets to fire at the young Texas defense. Will Muschamp has to be at his best to hope to stop the high power offense. When the Horns have the ball, look to Colt McCoy to try to keep OU off guard with a mixture of passing and running the ball. The Texas offense MUST run the ball to have a chance. I think turnovers and the kicking game will also be very important! Hate to say it......Oklahoma 27 Texas 20.....
Back in business

After taking off a few weeks from blogging for summer, its time to get back in the swing of things. School starts today in the Austin School District. My two boys, Ben and Ferris are back to the books and football today. My summer has been great. A wonderful combination of work, travel and fun with my guys......We spent allot of time together this summer, my boys and I. Golf, baseball, lake, Bar-B-Que and travel. Lost track of the number of times we played golf together. It was fun to watch them improve their game. We would try to find a new burger or bar-b-que place before of after our golf. We also took a great trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the capitol and my niece and family. A visit to the West Wing of the White House, tour of the capitol and the National Gallery were among the ...
Birthday evokes Memories
Posted 6/23/2008 2:06:00 PM
Today is my Ferris' 17th birthday.....He is my oldest son (Ben is now 13).
How could he be 17? It seems just yesterday that he was born! Ferris was named after two of the most important people in my life; my father George Ferris Clements and my brother George Ferris Clements Jr. My brother Buddy never got to know Ferris; he died in a car wreck in 1979. My father cried when Betsy and I called him with the news that we named our son after he and Buddy. Some of you long time listeners remember when he was born and I talked about his birth on the radio. Many remember Ferris when he would attend broadcast remotes with me wearing a diaper.....You have seen him with me at Longhorn sporting events through the years. You remember when he and Ben would make predictions on Friday nights during the football ...
Tiger is Out for the Year!
Posted 6/19/2008 11:33:00 AM
Its not good news for the golf world that superstar Tiger Woods is out for the year.....Ready to watch the British Open next month as D.J. Trahan battles Justin Rose? Its going to be a long summer for fans of the PGA Tour and the Golf Channel. Without Tiger, the tour loses its heart, soul and ratings winner. The bad news for the golf world is good for the likes of Justin Leonard, Rich Beem, Kenny Perry and most importantly, Phil Mickelson. Ole Phil must be licking his chops and looking forward to the Majors and the Ryder Cup.....Speaking of the Ryder Cup, the news of Tiger's absence from golf is the worst news possible for Captain Paul Azzinger. No Tiger and slim hopes of retaining the Cup in September in Kentucky. Maybe the team will rally round Zinger and pull off the biggest upset in the history of the ...
The U.S. Open Golf Tournament is Underway!
Posted 6/12/2008 2:28:00 PM
My second favorite golf tournament, the U.S. Open got underway today at Torrey Pines in San Diego....(By the way, my favorite golf tournament is the Masters!) Here are my top five picks in this weeks tournament:
1. Phil Mickelson-Home town boy who is on his game.....Can he make up for previous Open blunders?
2. Sergio Garcia-The win at The Players gives the Sergio street cred......
3. Trevor Immelman-Masters Champ finished 2nd last week....
4. Jim Furyk-Steady as a rock in past Open's......
5. J.B. Holmes-A real long shot.....But he hits the ball a mile and Torrey Pines in the longest ever U.S. Open venue.
Why didn't I pick Tiger? He is not in GOLF shape. If he wins this week, he is Superman!
